My name is Jordan and I've been an English and History tutor for 6 years. During this period, I have developed a strong rapport with my tutoring students and their families. Despite tutoring being demanding, I still love it through and through as it offers me the opportunity to get alongside students and bring out their potential. Through my tutoring experience and university studies, I have come to realise that everyone can excel if given the motivation, the support, and the right resources. If you want to get on board with this vision, then please contact me.
For Years 11-13 at Avondale College, I studied a range of subjects including English, Art History, History, Psychology, and Economics. Despite going through the NCEA curriculum I attended a private school which prepared me for studying CIE subjects.
I have completed several degrees: a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Auckland, a Diploma in Applied Theology at Carey Baptist College, and a Bachelor of Theology (Hons) with first class honours at the University of Otago. Currently, I am undertaking a PhD in theology by distance through Otago.
I have been tutoring since 2011 and have tutored 27 different school students over this period. These students have differed in their year level, curriculum, personality, ethnicity, and gender, and some of them have had learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, auditory-processing problems, and language disorders. I have also spent time in the classroom, in 2013 I volunteered at Green Bay High School as a teacher aide. Together these different work experiences have offered me insights into NCEA, the school system, and students' struggles.
Outside of tutoring, I am an avid reader, a movie buff, a passionate runner, and an enthusiastic baker.
I have over the years been involved in my local community through volunteering in mentoring troubled youth as well as in being a teacher aide in poor performing classrooms. Alongside these activities, I have attended a local church in which I have mentored teens as well as leading a group of young adults for a number of years.
