Hello. I am a private tutor for K - 12, college and adult students. I hold two degrees: a BA in English/Literature & Communications; and a MS in publishing. My expertise is in showing students how to improve their writing skills, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. Study skills, time management and organizational skills are other areas of my expertise, as well as helping high school students write the common essay and supplemental questions for their college applications. I offer a full range of services for all grades, and I am a homework helper as well. Written expression is the most important skill to develop, because it is used to compose reports and research papers in all academic subjects, as well as for test essay responses. I also tutor in researching, taking notes, study skills, organizational skills, time management, and assignment planning - all part of the package that promotes academic success. To maximize a student's potential, I adapt my methods to appeal to the specific age of the student, his/her temperament, and learning style. I am currently tutoring students at the Lower Hutt Library after school hours and on weekends.

Most of the students I work with in person are within the age range of 8 - 14. Students who are 15 - 18 enjoy working online by emailing me their work as word documents or google docs. I read and reply online with suggestions and comments for improvement and provide mini-lessons in the areas for which they need clarification and strengthening. College students work with me in the areas of brainstorming, pre-writing, text citations, writing a thesis, organizing paragraphs, and more. Some adults need assistance on their jobs in the workplace with writing memorandum, emails, preparing letters and reports. In addition, I have helped students from ages 12 - 17 with study skills, preparing for quizzes and tests, learning for long-term memory, taking and organizing notes, tips on speed-reading, and time management. I've working with many high school seniors with their college applications by reading their essays online and emailing suggestions and comments for improvement.
I enjoy researching and writing, playing harpsichord, singing, dancing, meditation, gardening, hiking, and cooking. I'm interested in helping students 1) develop a love for learning about words; schedule daily time for reading a variety of genres (fiction, non-fiction, historical fiction, biographies, and autobiographies; grow their skills in writing about literature and by journaling; and 3) understand how books can help them learn about themselves and the world by making connections.
